  • Thank you for your interest in the Discovery Project!

    This form will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

    The information you submit as part of this application form will tell us more about you. This will help us decide if you are eligible for Discovery. Please check our eligibility criteria before applying. Discovery has a limited number of places, and so places will be allocated to applicants who meet the most eligibility criteria. 

    Applications close at 11:59pm on Friday 10 January 2025. We aim to let you know the outcome of your application by Friday 17 January 2025.

    Event Information

    Sessions will run on Tuesday evenings.

    Venue: Bute Building, King Edward VII Avenue, Cardiff, CF10 3NB.

    Dates: 4 February, 11 February, 18 February, 4 March, 11 March and 18 March.

    Time:  5pm - 6:30pm (registration from 4:45pm)

    Section 1: About the participant. This tells us more information about you, including emergency contacts.

    Section 2: Access information and code of conduct.  This includes medical, accessibility and safeguarding information and our code of conduct.

    This privacy information supplements the Widening Participation data protection notice, which explains how we comply with data protection legislation. The information below provides some detail on what we will do with your application response.

    This application form will be used to ascertain eligibility for the Discovery programme and to contact you should you be successful in gaining a place. We will also use information for evaluating our activities, monitoring their effectiveness and purposes, and to see whether our participants go on to study in Higher Education. This data will also inform research which helps us ensure we are interacting with a wide range of students.

    Data and information used for evaluation and reporting purposes will be anonymised should it be shared or published. Personal data from individuals who participate in Widening Participation activities will be retained for a minimum period of 5 years after the end of the project.  Personal data from unsuccessful applicants will be retained for up to one year after the completion of the application process.

  • Use of photographs and films

    The Widening Participation team would like to take photographs and videos at our events for marketing and evaluation purposes.

    Once complete, images, recordings and films may be distributed across our digital platforms (including but not limited to: YouTube, Twitter (X), Instagram) as well as projected/shown as part of marketing, events and evaluations. Images can be considered personal data under data protection legislation and our legal basis for processing such images is legitimate interest.

    I understand that:

    • The images/recordings will be held securely;

    • The images/recordings will be the copyright of the University and any other intellectual property which arises in the images/recordings will also belong to the University;

    • I can request a copy of these images/recordings at any time;

    • I can ask the University to stop using my images/recordings at any time, in which case they will not be used in future publications but may continue to appear in publications already in circulation.
